Itinerary

DAY 1: Huacawasi > Sondor > Quebrada de Sacsayllame > Aruray Cocha > Yurak Cocha > Miski Unu

We’ll pick you up from your hotel around 6:00 am and set off toward Lares, where our trek begins. Along the way, we’ll stop in Calca, a charming town where you can explore the local market, grab breakfast, and stock up on any essentials. Your guide will suggest buying some bread to share with the children we’ll meet along the trail.

Upon reaching Lares, we’ll visit the soothing hot springs—perfect for relaxing while our chefs prepare a delicious lunch. Refreshed and energized, we’ll begin our hike toward the first campsite in Huacawasi (3,600 m / 11,811 ft). The 3-hour gradual ascent will help you acclimatize for the next day’s challenge: reaching the trek’s highest point.

For the first night, we’ll stay in the home of our local horsemen, who will accompany us throughout the journey. This is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Andean village life. When we arrive, your tents will already be set up, and you’ll be welcomed with popcorn, sweets, and hot tea before dinner.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll begin our ascent toward the trek’s highest point—the breathtaking Sacsayllame Pass (4,400m / 14,435ft). The challenging 4-hour climb is steep, but an emergency horse will be available for anyone needing assistance. Along the way, you’ll witness towering Andean peaks, patchwork farmlands, and sweeping vistas.

Refreshed, we’ll continue downhill through a tranquil forest, home to the native Queuña (Polylepis) trees—a symbol of Peru’s rugged beauty.
